Since a few 42 kids have asked me about keybinds or console commands ill share the basics. i suppose ive just taken for granted that ive learned them along the way and i shouldn't expect everyone to have it as default knowledge. convenience is a good thing...
there are only a few that most find useful (while playing instagib ctf) dropflag, set input, and perhaps suicide.
to use these commands all you have to do is press the tab key while in the game. (or the tilda key if ur in menu "`" that thing the same key as "~" this thing but don't worry about that just focus on tab)
when u press t (default button configuration) to type a message in chat the console command "(> say" comes up. when u press tab only "(>" will come up. that means its ready to accept console commands.
once you are in console you can type in "dropflag" or "suicide" (no quotation marks) and press enter and the command will do just that.
however i find it convenient to keybind these commands. so i don't have to type it in everytime, in case i need to do it quickly. keybinding means u assign these console commands to a designated key (usually one u don't usually have use for when normally playing. be sure to use keys that don't interfere with buttons used in other modes you play) for me, since i almost only play instagib capture the flag, i use b and n for those two basic commands.
press tab to enter console then type.
set input b dropflag
and press enter. hence forth every time u press b when u have the flag, it will be promptly... dropped.
***
tab
set input n suicide
enter. n = aneurysm.
when to use these bits? u ask? if your mate just nearly makes it to capture and gets murderlized pick it up and if they want it back, give it back. or if your falling and don't want to be embarrassed (".... leaves a small crater" < "... had an aneurysm") or you don't have time to fall: they have your flag and u could use those moments so they don't have the time to get that much further. or if there is no one on defense in bridge, someone takes your flag, your on the other side of the map, and you know that they will get away if u don't stop them; pressing "n" will get you close to your flag room and the enemy flag carrier faster. suicide does take away a point though, and some adrenaline. so try to moderate yourself.

there are also a bunch of different uses for keybinding: for instance, i have a bunch of messages keybinded such as "clear flag room"
set input delete teamsay clear flag room
(pressing delete automatically brings up the message "clear flag room" in team chat)
but those are subject to preference and don't really have as much of a basic necessity.
